Project Summary

The objective of the project is to strengthen the impact assessment capacity of Turkey to foster the implementation of the NPAA and the Accession Partnership, with a reference to the acquis communautaire. The project intends to inform public by addressing the opportunities and challenges of the EU accession process. Since, environment chapter is going to be one of the essential topics during negotiations, stakeholders in Turkey need to propose their strategies. Therefore, a micro analysis on the 88/609/ EC Council Directive regarding the limitation of emissions of certain pollutants into the air from large combustion plants will be conducted in the project to develop training capacity and expertise on impact analysis within the universities, think-tanks, public and private institutions and other civil society groups. Impact assessments are conducted to oversee the ways and means to reduce adverse impacts at an early stage and to present predictions and options to decision-makers regarding the implementation of the acquis.  This initiative attempts to identify and assess the likely costs of proposed development activities coming with the Council Directive. The project also seeks to generate a common working culture both within Turkey among public, private institutions, NGOs, think-tanks, universities and with specialized institutions in Europe and to form a sustainable network link.
